Privacy Policy

New Horizons is committed to ensuring that each person’s right to privacy and confidentiality is promoted, respected and upheld and that open and transparent process are established for the collection, management, storage and disclosure of information.

Our Privacy and Confidentiality Policy has been adopted in order to comply with the requirements of the Privacy Amendment (Enhancing Privacy Protection) Act 2012 and Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

What information we collect

Only relevant information (Eg medical, personal, financial, employment or otherwise) will be collected about an individual, who is provided with a service and/or employed by New Horizons, and will be treated in the strictest confidence.

How information is collected

We collect information on individuals using fair and lawful means and with the consent of the individual or their legal guardian. Information is collected either directly or indirectly from the individual, their guardian, New Horizons staff and/or authorised third parties. Information may be obtained verbally, in writing or electronically, (e-mail, video or web sites) as appropriate.

Why we collect information

We will only collect, hold, use and disclose personal information that is necessary for New Horizons to complete one or more of its functions or activities. Eg. The collection of information to identify client needs and supports and identify strategies to meet those needs and supports in the least restrictive way.

Access to information and correction

Individuals may request, through the Chief Executive Officer, access to personal information about them that is held by New Horizons. If an individual considers information about them to be incorrect, they may request to have that information corrected.

Breaches in privacy

Such breaches should be reported, through New Horizons’ Complaints Handling process, and will be fully investigated. Appropriate corrective and preventative actions will be taken to address the matter or minimise the risk of reoccurrence. Breaches of privacy may also be reported to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner by calling 1300 363 993

Will personal information be sent overseas

It is unlikely that private and personal information will need to be disclosed to an overseas recipient; however should such disclosure become necessary it will not be made without the consent of the individual or their guardian.
